It is a tragic reality that it is easier to "manage the relationship" than "manage the results". Do marketers sense the difference between the spin of managing the relationship versus accountability from managing results? I think they do. I like to believe that marketers can tell the difference and I hope that senior marketers will reward their agency when they do step up and attempt a transition to accountability by giving them some space and some time to honestly assess what sticks and what doesn't. The benefit of accountability to the agency is that a partnership with the marketer based on measurement and accountability translates into a healthier and longer term relationship between marketer and agency.
